Sergio Ramos retires from international soccer after he was informed by Luis de la Fuente he wouldn't be part of their plans.

Ramos made 180 appearances for his country, more than anyone else for the Spanish men's national team, scoring 23 goals and winning the 2010 World Cup as well as back-to-back European Championships in 2008 and 2012.

"I received a call from the current head coach who informed I am not and will not be part of his plans, regardless of how I perform or whatever I do in my career," Ramos posted on social media.

"With a heavy heart, it is the end of a road which I hoped would end with a better taste or on a part with we achieve with La Roja.

"I honestly believe this journey deserved to end at my choosing or because my performances were not at a level worthy of the national team -- not due to a question of age or other reasons."

Manchester United are not planning a massive spend on transfers this summer, even if the Qatar takeover bid is successful.

Qatari banker Sheikh Jassim Bin Hamad Al Thani made his offer to buy the club public on Friday with the promise to "return United to its former glories both on and off the pitch."

Chelsea are confident Thiago Silva will sign a one-year extension through 2024.

Silva's deal expires at the end of the season. 

Speaking about the possibility of a new contract last week, Silva said: "We are talking about it. Probably everything will happen in the next few days. My intention and the club's intention are the same: to stay together.

"I know that the club needs me at this moment, I'm here to help, there are young players. I think that with my experience I can help in this process of rebuilding the club.

"I am here for this, willing to do this. But I know that my responsibility is huge. I know we have a lot of work ahead of us."

Manchester City have been charged by the Premier League for breaking financial fair play rules across nine seasons. 

The Premier League confirmed that a number of alleged breaches between the 2009-10 and 2017-18 seasons.

City have been charged with more than 100 breaches of rules which required the club, according to the Premier League, to provide "accurate financial information that gives a true and fair view of the club's financial position."

Pep Guardiola has guided the club to three league titles since his appointment in 2016.
